Sarah Deas (CNP, RYT, PTS, BD)

Sarah Deas is a Certified Nutritional Practitioner, Registered Yoga Teacher, and certified Personal Training Specialist.  She is an honours graduate from The Institute of Holistic Nutrition, where she completed courses such as Preventative Health Care, Sports Nutrition, Herbal Medicine and The Psychology of Disease.  As a holistic nutritionist, Sarah works with her clients to help them reach their health goals and experience a better quality of life using food, herbs and supplements.

Sarah is also a graduate of the Sivasoorya Divine School of Yoga, where she completed her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training program.  Her yoga training is based on Sivasoorya Yoga techniques, which emphasize traditional spiritual training, as well as basic Ayurvedic teaching.  She integrates a balance of basic and advanced Hatha yoga asanas, Kriya yoga, chanting and meditation into her practice.  She has also been trained in Kundalini yoga, Kallori yoga, Ashtanga Yoga and Vinyasa yoga.

She is currently enrolled in the 300 hour teacher trainer program at the Ahimsa Yoga Studio, where is planning to receive her 500 hour yoga teacher training certification in April 2019.

Her approach to health focuses on improving diet, reducing mental and physical stress, individualized exercise regimens and developing healthy lifestyle habits.  By focusing on multiple pillars of health, Sarah is able optimize the well-being of her clients by identifying their individualized needs.

My Story

My lifelong passion for Holistic Nutrition flourished in 2014, after spending several years living and working in the Australian outback.  During this time, I was exposed to a new way of living that focused on a balanced, happy and healthy lifestyle.  However, prior to this experience…

A Decline in Health

I spent over a decade working in the Toronto hospitality and night club industry, where I became addicted to an unhealthy way of life.  Despite the financial and materialistic benefits that accompanied my lifestyle, my health began to suffer.

Like many of us, I suffered from:

  • Poor digestion
  • Bloating
  • Low energy
  • Lack of motivation
  • Acne
  • Hair loss
  • Anxiety
  • Depression

At the age of 24, my acne was worse than it had ever been, and I began having terrible mood swings.  At this point, I had taken countless courses of antibiotics for recurring infections, such as bacterial infections, colds, and countless skin conditions.  Because I was only focused on the external problems, I decided to take the drug Accutane as a “quick fix” to clear up my skin.  Of course, this worked for only a short period of time, and then the acne came back worse than ever before.

I began to feel overwhelmed and defeated, as it seemed each health concern that I had continued to get worse.  I was burdened with seeing a a specialist to address each issue individually, and still not seeing any real results.

When Alignment Occurs

At 24, I had not yet uncovered my true passion and so I decided to work and travel in Australia.  I was searching for something, but not exactly sure what I was looking for.  I landed a job working as a resident-housemaid at a bird sanctuary in far north Queensland (FNQ).   The closest town was a 7 hour drive away, and we had minimal access to the “outside world”, including internet, wifi, telephone service and community.

Despite the differences in lifestyle that I was exposed to, I found myself intrigued and curious for what this experience could offer me.  The owner’s of the lodge were some of the healthiest, most positive and generous people that I have ever encountered.  I was encouraged to experiment with diet in order to resolve many of my own health issues.  This was something that I had never tried before and even further, was never exposed to.

The Diet and Lifestyle that Began to Heal

It only took a couple of weeks until I started to see drastic improvements in my mood, skin, sleep and digestive regularity.  I was amazed by the power of healthy living, and the results of my hard work kept me focussed and disciplined. Within the first month, I lost 15 pounds from my “gut”, and my energy levels went through the roof.

I initially cut out inflammatory foods and followed a version of the Candida diet that I had found online.  In addition to the diet that I had created, I made many lifestyle adjustments that further aided and excelled my healing process.  This included:

  • Regular sleeping patterns
  • Meditation
  • Low impact DAILY exercise.
  • I was living in nature, and therefore had low exposure to:
    • EMFs (electro magnetic fields)
    • Pollution,
    • Pesticides
    • Chemicals and other environmental toxins.
  • I was surrounded by people that offered me unconditional love, acceptance and encouragement.
  • Negative beliefs and thought patterns about myself began to change, as my subconscious mind was flooded with positivity.
  • I spent my time listening to the high frequency sounds of nature, as well as positive and inspirational music
  • I tried not to dwell on negative thoughts

I maintained these new lifestyle patterns for the duration of my work experience in the Australian outback.  When I returned to Toronto,  I structured my life with my new found healthy living template.

The Secret to Upkeep

Returning to Toronto was not as easy as I thought it would be.  A new me tried to fit in to an old lifestyle pattern, which I quickly began to realize was nearly impossible.  I had many ups and downs before realizing that a changed me needed a new environment.  I began to study holistic nutrition, as well as other alternative ways to heal the body and mind.  The secret to optimal living was not a one time fix, but the creation and maintenance of new lifestyle patterns.  

Since 2016, I have become a Certified holistic Nutritional Practitioner, Registered Yoga Teacher and Certified Personal Training Specialist.  I am constantly exploring new ways to improve my health, which I am then able to share with others through my own personal experience.  I am currently enrolled to receive my 500 hour YTT certification, and am constantly doing self studies and taking courses to further my practice as a holistic nutritionist, yoga teacher and life coach.
